Top Hosting Links Makes your Web Hosting Choice Easier

Choosing a web host generally doesn't take a lot of effort or knowledge of the field, but you will want to do some homework before making your decision. The good news is that you have lots of options. And the bad news, if there is any, is also that you have lots of options.

We're here to give you a hand. Use our expert and user reviews to get to know a web hosting company before you start. Our hosting experts list the features and prices and pros and cons of each web hosting service, summarizing the facts all in one location for you. Learn from our individual user reviews to find out what real people like you loved and hated about a web host's customer service, uptime, and pricing.

Choosing a Web Hosting Company

Here are a few things that you will want to consider before deciding who you want to work with:

BANDWIDTH AND DISK SPACE

The truth is that for the majority of users, bandwidth and disk space will never be an issue. Many hosting providers offer unlimited bandwidth and disk space as an enticement to sign with them. Even if you are a user who may have a website with a few hundred pages, you still are highly unlikely to exceed common disk space limitations. And unless your site gets a huge amount of traffic, the unlimited bandwidth offer will be a non issue. For example, your 100 page website probably won't take up more than 10 MB of disk space and under most circumstances its monthly traffic will likely be under 5 GB. The hosting companies recognize this and that is why they offer you unlimited, knowing you'll probably never exceed common usage. Are we suggesting you avoid these hosts that offer unlimited bandwidth and disk space? NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT. We like them and we use them too. We're merely saying that under most circumstances, it is not pertinent. Don't place too much weight on this feature when making your choice of a host. It is an excellent feature to have, and if it provides you with some comfort, then you should give it more weight.

CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT

The best hosting companies will have ongoing training and evaluation programs for their staff. And they will be proudly bragging about it. It is okay to ask these questions when considering who will be your host.

RELIABILITY AND DOWNTIME

Chances are your website will never go down. For the vast majority of users, this is a non issue. But there are some things you should be aware of that makes a hosting company have very little downtime. Computers are machines and things sometimes go wrong. Virtually all reputable hosting companiess have intricate backup systems in place in case of a malfunction. They install things such as backup servers and redundant hard drives (wherein your data is copied instantly to another drive in case one drive fails). And their servers are kept in rooms that are static free, dust free, temperature and humidity controlled, monitored by elaborate warning systems and even guarded by security. Even with all this, there is a chance something will go wrong if it can. But you will find that most successful hosting companies guarantee 99% or 99.5% uptime. Actually measuring it would be difficult, but if you were to have an issue, it is a good bet that you would get money back or more likely some extended free hosting time. When choosing your host, take note of their uptime guarantee and you should be in good shape.

WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE FEATURES?

As you view the offerings of different hosting companies, you will see huge lists of features and software that are included in your plan. Some of it may be unfamiliar to you, and chances are if you don't know what it is, you probably won't need it. And it is usually always available for free elsewhere if you do decide you need it later. Much of the offerings are similar from company to company, but there may be things that are of interest to you that you'll want to specifically look for. If you are setting up a blog, look for blogging software. If you're planning on having a store, you'll want to pay attention to the Ecommerce offerings, such as shopping cart software and payment acceptance systems. If you're a beginner, you may be interested in checking out the website building software and an easy to use control panel. So in the end, it just depends on what your goals are for your website.

THE PRICE

Oh, but what about the price? This where we suggest that yes, the old adage is true: You get what you pay for. For the less expensive packages such as SHARED HOSTING (link), the difference in the cost is usually not more than a few dollars per month for feature laden packages that are very similar to one another. Just make sure your choice offers the things that are important to you when you make the final decision. For more expensive plans such as CLOUD HOSTING, VPS HOSTING or DEDICATED HOSTING (links), the differences are clearer and you will need to ask more questions. Most hosting companies will offer discounted rates for signing up for 12, 24 or 36 months and this could save you a big chunk of money, especially on a dedicated hosting plan.

So now that you know what to look for, go find the right hosting company that fits your needs just right. And if you're starting a business or an organization, here's hoping you will grow to need that unlimited bandwidth and disk space. And that you'll be able to use all of those 500 email accounts.
